【摘要】:Disturbanceimpartedtosedimentsaftersamplingcansignificantlyaffectsomegeotechnicalproperties.Carefulpracticesneedtobefollowedtominimizesoilfabricchangescausedfromhandling,storing,andpreparingsedimentspecimensfortesting.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection,etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmayfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.Thepracticespresentedinthisdocumentshouldbeusedwithsoilthathasaverysoftorsoftshearstrength(undrainedshearstrengthlessthan25kPa(3.6psi))consistency.Note28212;Somesoilsthatareobtainedatorjustbelowtheseafloorquicklydeformundertheirownweightifleftunsupported.Thistypeofbehaviorpresentsspecialproblemsforsometypesoftesting.Specialhandlingandpreparationproceduresarerequiredunderthosecircumstances.Testaresometimesperformedatseatominimizetheeffectofstoragetimeandhandlingonsoilproperties.Anundrainedshearstrengthoflessthan25kPawasselectedbasedonTerzaghiandPeck.Theydefinedaverysoftsaturatedclayashavingundrainedshearstrengthlessthan25kPa.Thesepracticesshallapplytospecimensofnaturallyformedmarinesoil(thatmayormaynotbefragileorhighlysensitive)thatwillbeusedfordensitydetermination,consolidation,permeabilitytestingorshearstrengthtestingwithorwithoutstress-strainpropertiesandvolumechangemeasurements(seeNote3).Inaddition,dynamicandcyclictestingcanalsobeperformedonthesample.Note38212;Tohelpevaluatedisturbance,X-RayRadiographyhasprovenhelpful,refertoMethodsD4452.Thesepracticesapplytofine-grainedsoilsthatdonotallowtherapiddrainageofporewater.Althoughmanyoftheprocedurescanapplytocoarser-grainedsoils,drainagemayoccurrapidlyenoughtowarrantspecialhandlingproceduresnotcoveredinthesepractices.Thesepracticesapplyprimarilytosoilspecimensthatareobtainedinthin-walledorsimilarcoringdevicesthatproducehigh-qualitycoresorthatareobtainedbypushingathin-walledtubeintocorestakenwithanothersamplingdevice.Thesepracticescanbeusedinconjunctionwithsoilscontaininggas,however,morespecializedproceduresandequipmentthatarenotcoveredinthesepracticeshavebeendevelopedforusewithsuchmaterials.Note48212;Forinformationonhandlinggaschargedsediments,thereaderisreferredtopapersbyJohns,etal.,andLee.1.1Thesepracticescovermethodsforproject/cruisereporting,andhandling,transportingandstoringsoftcohesiveintactmarinesoil.Proceduresforpreparingsoilspecimensfortriaxialstrength,andconsolidationtestingarealsopresented.1.2Thesepracticesmayincludethehandlingandtransportingofsedimentspecimenscontaminatedwithhazardousmaterialsandsamplessubjecttoquarantineregulations.1.3Thesepracticesofferasetofinstructionsforperformingoneormorespecificoperations.Thisdocumentcannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthispracticemaybeapplicableinallcircumstance......
